2024 Fall Outstanding Volunteer Recognition Dinner
Two honorees were recognized at the 2024 Fall Outstanding Volunteer Recognition Dinner. Congratulations to Don Springer & Jerry Haug!
Don Springer was born in Osceola, WI.
In the summer of 2011 Don retired from Andersen Corporation after 39 years. And soon after Don and his wife Sue purchased their dream retirement home on Lake Wapogasset – Sunrise Beach Drive.
In 2016, Don was approached by Dave Nelson to serve as a trustee on Sunrise Beach. After consideration, I decided why not, it’s a great way to meet people and to serve on our Lake Association.
Don helped Dave Nelson and the buoy team for a few years and decided it was time to relieve Dave of his duties, so he chaired the Buoy Team. In 2021, Don purchased the Buoy Team Pontoon” and recruited his lake neighbors to join his team.
In the fall of 2021, the Lake Association had a Treasurer position opening, so Don took on the Lake Association membership program that was part of the Treasurer position to help out.
Don, also works with Jim Andersen and the Community Board to assist with Lake Association communications, Lake Scene, Fall Directory, the Lake Association “Email Blast” program. Don also serves on the Fish and Dam committee, and is the trustee representative on the LWBT Executive Board.
Don has 2 girls, Amy Riegelman & Lindsey Springer, and 3 grandchildren Breck and twins Forrest & Aurora.
Don’s interests include Group Sales Organizer for the Minnesota Twins and he loves to honor the great men and women who served or are currently serving in the armed forces by raising the flag during the National Anthem at Target Field baseball games. Don, also loves spending time with family and friends, watching his grandkids sporting events. He enjoys volunteering for the Wapo Bible Camp – Christmas Dinner Theater shows, Red Cross, Church meal ministry team, and whenever there’s free time, Don loves to watch and attend sporting events. And his number one favorite is fishing!

Jerry Haug was born and raised in Amery, spending his first 18 years of life on the farm. During his time in Amery, he was introduced and became familiar with Lake Wapogasset through yard work for the lake residents. As time went on, Haug would graduate from Amery High School in 1961, and continue his education at the University of Wisconsin, graduating there in 1965. In that same year Haug would join an insurance company and stay with them for the next 35 years. Throughout those decades, Haug would end up transferring and living in Little Rock, Cleveland, and St. Louis, before making the trek back to and staying in the twin cities in 1983.
In 1987, Haug would return to the area after purchasing some lake front property that he had cared for in his youth. Since buying the property, it has been a beloved gathering spot for family and friends alike. Everyone has enjoyed the lake and all the fun that comes with it. They have enjoyed the many years of boat parades, ice cream socials, fishing, boating and listening to music right on the water.
Haug is a father of three children and grandfather to six. His wife, Cathy, passed away in 2011. He currently lives on the family homestead with his partner, Judy.
